CARL JUNG’s CONCEPT OF THE PERSONA

What is Persona?

Persona

The term Personality is derived from the word Persona which is referred to as Mask. Metaphorically it can be said that, the World we live is associated to a big Drama stage and the people who live in that world are considered as just like the Characters of a Play, where each and every individual wears a mask to play their respective roles in life according to the rules and regulations of the Society.

This is where Carl Jung’s concept of the Persona can be applied. According to Carl Jung every single individual has 2 types of Persona i.e. 1 is Public Persona that we wear for Societal Acceptance and the 2nd is the Private Persona which we are not aware of and which is hidden and that is what is known as Unconsciousness. The private persona is the real personality of an individual which we have no control on it. And when the situation is out of our control, the private persona will get exposed to the society and that is where the Society and the Individual comes to know about the real Self.
